A Zanzibar story

Zanzibar, the way it should be.

Every great trip is a story. Let yours begin on the water.

Chapter One

It begins with a landing

The plane drops over turquoise water. Warm air meets you at the door, and a friendly face is waiting with your name on a sign. Your first evening is Stone Town, with spice on the breeze and the call to prayer drifting over the rooftops.

  • Private airport greeting and transfer
  • An easy first evening, never a rush
  • Start here, or finish here after safari

Chapter Five

Beyond the shore

Zanzibar rarely stands alone. Some stories begin here and head for the mainland. Others finish here, with sand between your toes.

Beach After: finish on the beach

Safari or Kilimanjaro first, then unwind in Zanzibar.

A short flight from Arusha or Kilimanjaro, a private transfer, and a stay chosen for recovery: spa, slow beach days and a sunset dhow.

The most popular way to combine a safari or climb with Zanzibar.

Plan this journey

Beach Before: start on the beach

Recover from the long flight, then head to safari rested.

A beachfront arrival, an easy Stone Town evening and welcome dinner, then a flight to Arusha.

Not recommended before a Kilimanjaro climb, where you should arrive in Arusha early to acclimatize.

Plan this journey

Bookend: both

A few nights at the start and a longer stay at the end.

Ideal for longer luxury trips that want the beach on both sides of the safari.

Plan this journey

Safari from the shore

Nyerere (Selous) day trip

A short scenic flight, then a game drive or boat safari.

Day trip

Nyerere overnight

Add a camp night for dawn game drives and walking safaris.

1 night

Mikumi and Saadani

Closer, simpler options. Saadani is where the bush meets the beach.

Day trip or overnight

Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire

Two to three days via Arusha for the big names.

2 to 3 days

Climbing Kilimanjaro? Arrive in Arusha early to acclimatize, then finish in Zanzibar. For full multi-day safaris and climbs, ask us about our specialist safari team.

Chapter Six

We are Waves and Wonders Tanzania

Waves and Wonders Tanzania is a Zanzibar travel company. We design tailor-made holidays on the island, and we help travelers fit a beach stay around a Tanzania safari or Kilimanjaro climb.

Every trip is planned by hand with the guides, boat captains and hosts who know which beach is best at which tide, and which table has the best sunset. That is the difference between visiting Zanzibar and knowing it.

To show you Zanzibar the way people who love it see it, with care for the places and communities that make it special.

Local first

We work with Zanzibari guides, captains and hosts.

Tailor-made

Your dates, your pace, your budget. No fixed packages.

Responsible

We respect the reef, the culture and the communities we visit.

Good to know

When is the best time to visit Zanzibar?

June to October and December to February are the driest and sunniest months. March to May is the long rainy season, with lower prices and quieter beaches.

Should I visit Zanzibar before or after safari?

Most travelers finish on the beach to recover. Starting there suits those recovering from a long flight, or honeymooners. Kilimanjaro climbers should acclimatize in Arusha first.

Can I do a safari from Zanzibar?

Yes. Short flights reach Nyerere (Selous), Mikumi and Saadani for day trips or overnights, and Arusha for the northern parks.

How do I book?
